About Kenai River Hale

The Kenai River Hale is not a lodge where the proprietor will be there to assist you. It is for do it yourselfers who want to minimize their cost by doing their own cooking and scheduling. You schedule your own activities such as flyouts for silver salmon fishing or bear watching. Similarly, you make your own arrangements for saltwater fishing for halibut, rock fish, and ling cod. You can also schedule a glacier cruse or go clamming. If desired, a number of places are available to clean, smoke, or package your fish. Please Contact Us for phone numbers.

Go digging for razor clams. To do this, you need at least a minus 3 tide. A boat takes you to a sandbar only exposed by the negative tide. The more negative the tide, the more time you have to dig for clams. Clam shovels are provided. Don't forget to bring your ice chests.

Go deep sea fishing at Homer or Seward and catch rock fish. It is a delicious, oily fish. Good for soups or steaming.

Go see the wildlife. Believe it or not, this is a mama moose. She left her calf on the other side of the river bank to feed on the lush grasses on top of the hill. She swam straight across although the river current was about 9 mph.
